Hockey Fans in Training (Hockey FIT): Improving Men’s Health through the Power of Sport

In partnership with local hockey teams and YMCA branches, researchers at Western University are looking to improve the health of adult male hockey fans through a 12 week, off-ice, exercise and healthy lifestyle program. Hockey Fans In Training (Hockey FIT) is run by certified coaches, helping sports fans make sustainable lifestyle changes to improve their health.

  • 16 distinct major junior hockey teams & YMCA branches in Ontario part of Hockey FIT program (18 sites total)
  • 23 CHL management and other CHL personnel involved in signing on with Hockey FIT & coordination of site logistics
  • 34 YMCA management and other YMCA personnel involved
  • 57 YMCA staff trained and certified as Hockey FIT coaches
  • 276 users visited our website and 777 viewed our page in the last 30 days
  • +800 interested men & +500 enrolled in Hockey FIT study
  • 8K impressions across our social media platforms in the last 30 days (Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram)
  • WHL and QMJHL to begin Q1 2020 to enroll remaining sites and participants
