In Memoriam: Dr. Gordon Lindsay Dickie
With sadness, we share the passing of Dr. Gordon Lindsay Dickie on December 22, 2025, in London, Ontario.
Dr. Dickie was a respected family physician and academic who made significant contributions to the Department of Family Medicine at Western University. He immigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1971 and joined the department that same year. He practiced at St. Joseph’s Family Medical Centre and remained an active member of the department until his retirement in 2006, at which time he was appointed Professor Emeritus.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dickie was deeply committed to family medicine education, clinical care, and mentorship. He played a leadership role in postgraduate medical education and was widely recognized for his dedication to learners, colleagues, and patients.
Dr. Dickie made significant contributions to the department and to Family Medicine provincially and nationally. He served as Program Director for Family Medicine from 1986 to 2001, the longest-serving postgraduate director in Canada at that time. He also held leadership roles including President of the Ontario College of Family Physicians (1992–1993) and served on the Board of the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He was widely recognized for his commitment to teaching and was a perennial recipient of the University of Western Ontario honours teaching award.
