In Memoriam: Dr. Joshua Shadd

With sadness, we share news of the passing of Dr. Joshua Shadd, former Assistant Professor in our Department of Family Medicine and, at present, a faculty member in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster. His clinical specialty was palliative care.

Dr. Shadd passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on December 15, 2018.

Dr. Shadd joined our Department in 2009 as Assistant Professor. He was a member of the Centre for Studies in Family Medicine (CSFM) and his clinical work was in palliative care at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and Parkwood Institute. Dr. Shadd went on to complete his Master’s of Clinical Sciences in Family Medicine at Western in 2013. His research work was in palliative care, and he worked closely with colleagues in the CSFM, scientists and clinicians, as well as collaborating widely with others at Western in CERI, Department of Anesthesia and Department of Medicine among others.

He was well regarded in the field of palliative care and was instrumental in assisting the Department and the Hospitals with a review of Palliative Care in 2011. For several years Dr. Shadd was the Medical Leader in Palliative Care at Parkwood Institute.

Dr. Shadd was widely respected for his thoughtful demeanour and collaborative nature. He will be sorely missed by all.
