Examining the Impact of Cannabis Legalization in Ontario

Abstract:
Dr. Elton-Marshall will present results from a CIHR funded Team grant triangulating evidence to better understand the impact of cannabis legalization in Ontario including impacts on cannabis use, cannabis impaired driving. Dr. Imtiaz will present findings from a CCSA funded project examining the impacts of cannabis legalization on alcohol consumption.

Short Biography:

Dr. Tara Elton-Marshall is an Associate Professor in the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa, a collaborating scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and an Adjunct Associate Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Western University. Her research evaluates addiction and substance use-related policies and programs with the goal of providing the evidence needed to strengthen future policy and programming and thus reduce addiction and substance use problems. 

Dr. Sameer Imtiaz is a Project Scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s Institute for Mental Health Policy Research. As a member of the Ontario Node of the Canadian Research Initiative in Substance Misuse (OCRINT), he conducts epidemiological research in the areas of substance use and addiction to inform clinical and policy interventions geared towards improving the health of people who use substances.
