Welcome Dr. Ben Chin-Yee

We are pleased welcome Dr. Ben Chin-Yee to the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine on January 1, 2025 as a Hematologist and Assistant Professor.

Dr. Chin-Yee attended medical school at the University of Toronto where he underwent residency training in Internal Medicine before moving to Western for Hematology residency training. Following this, he was accepted into the Clinician Investigator Program at Western, and was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Chin-Yee is a clinician researcher with an interdisciplinary research focus in malignant hematology and laboratory medicine. His research foci include clinical decision-making and utilization from both clinician- and patient-centred perspectives and consideration of ethical issues arising from the use of genomic data and AI in medicine. Dr. Chin-Yee aims to build bridges between technological innovation and clinical practice, using philosophy to help address issues of ethics and health equity, with the ultimate aim of improving clinical research, medical education, and patient care. Dr. Chin-Yee has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

In addition to his clinical role in Hematology and Hematopathology, Dr. Chin-Yee will serve as the Division Head of Hematology.
