    On April 11, the WPA was excited to have Dr. Art Poon be our Departmental Invited Speaker for our WPA Lecture Series. Dr. Poon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology who studies and designs computational methods to track the spread and adaptation of viruses.

  • Researchers Analyze Epigenetic Signatures to Diagnose Rare Diseases

    Researchers Analyze Epigenetic Signatures to Diagnose Rare Diseases. Now, a team of Canadian and American scientists have developed a computational tool that can diagnose 14 rare, hereditary disorders based on a patient’s episignature. Dr. Bekim Sadikovic and his colleagues used data from patients to train a machine learning algorithm—a type of artificial intelligence—to distinguish between the 14 conditions. They then tested the algorithm and showed it was correct around 99% of the time.
