Application Process for Canadian Medical Graduates (CMG)

Graduates of Canadian and US accredited medical schools who have not had any previous postgraduate medical education can apply for first year (PGY1) positions through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS). For detailed information on the application process, please visit CaRMS website.

This year seven(7) CMG and two (2) IMG positions in Paediatrics, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, got matched through CaRMS. This capacity is determined by mid-February each year (prior to the Match).

Application Process for International Medical Graduates (IMG)

International Medical Graduates who are citizens of countries outside North America and wish to enter residency training must be funded through a government agency or charitable organization (see Definitions of Postgraduate Trainees). Private or personal funds are not permissible. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have satisfactorily passed the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE), as well as the TSE and TOEFL (if applicable), and meet all the entry requirements of the Department to which they are applying.

A Pre-Entry Assessment Program (PEAP) of 4 to 12 weeks may be required for certain candidates. The Centre for the Evaluation of Health Professionals Educated Abroad (CEHPEA) is the only organization in Ontario that provides assessment, evaluation and training programs for Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs), with an examination and education centre in downtown Toronto.
