The Department of Paediatrics at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University supports a vibrant and competitive residency training program in General Paediatrics. We are one of the largest training programs in Canada with 10 Ministry of Health-funded PGY-1 positions annually.

We are proud of our training program and believe that our uniqueness offers resident candidates numerous advantages. Our large referral base ensures that residents will be exposed to an adequate depth and breadth of clinical material over the core years of the program. We are also very proud of our senior subspecialty trainees at the fellowship level. These relationships provide a direct, personal, and immensely rewarding relationship between faculty and residents.

There are many opportunities to become involved as a resident through the teaching program but more importantly at the bedside and in the clinic. The success of the teaching program at Western University is evident by the many positive comments received from residents about the tremendous value received by this type of learning environment. Many qualified candidates select Western University for their paediatric education based on this philosophy of learning.

Western University graduates are successful at National examinations and approximately 50% go to competitive fellowships in both clinical and research subspecialty domains.
