Visiting Professor - Dr. Maria Cortes

Title of Talk: Quality Assurance in Radiology: Where is the Clinical Approach?

Biography:

Dr. Maria Cortes is a Neuroradiologist and Neurointerventional radiologist working at McGill University since 2008.
She completed her radiology training in Bogota, Colombia and came to Canada in 2001 to do a fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology at UBC. This experience was a decisive one to follow onto an interventional practice. She moved to Montreal in 2004 to do an interventional fellowship at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital where later she became staff neuroradiologist.

Dr. Cortes practices both diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology with a busy clinical responsibility covering for stroke and neurovascular cases at the MUHC.

She is part of the mentorship program at the Medicine faculty of McGill and as an Associate professor for radiology, neurosurgery and neurology she teaches at pre and postgraduate levels.
She has been involved in the Medical Evaluation Committee of the MNH as chair since 2013 and leads the quality and assessment activities for the neuroradiology section of the department.

This year she is also the president of the Quebec Radiology Society (SRQ) where she helped organize the academic activities for CME of the Quebec members.

Dr. Cortes is a core clinical radiologist and advocates through her practice and teaching, a close interaction with clinicians to keep the radiologist’s practice relevant and pertinent.
