International Field School

Our three-week (approximate) Field School is an immersive, participatory learning journey across Uganda’s dynamic health landscape. Building on systems-thinking concepts from your coursework, you’ll travel from Kampala to regional clinics, you will be visiting the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), Reach One Touch One Ministries (ROTOM), national public-health laboratories, Makerere University School of Dentistry & Mulago Referral Hospital, Butabika Mental Hospital, and a variety of community-based outreach programs.
Each day combines guided site tours with in-depth discussions led by local health-care leaders and subject-matter experts. You’ll observe HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis service delivery, witness refugee-health initiatives, explore nutrition and maternal-child health interventions, and tour cutting-edge diagnostic labs. These firsthand experiences reveal both the challenges and innovations driving health-system resilience in resource-constrained settings.
By design, no two cohorts follow the exact same itinerary: our long-standing partnerships in Uganda ensure a fresh mix of facilities, organizations, and community projects each year. You’ll return not only with vivid memories of village clinics and metropolitan hospitals but with the practical insights and professional connections that will shape your work in global health for years to come.
