When is the Field School?
The Field School takes place during the summer term of the 12-month Professional Program. It typically begins in the second week of May and runs through the last week of May, immediately followed by the two-month internship.
What vaccinations will be required before I travel to Uganda?
Students must consult their health-care provider for personalized advice. For general guidance on destination-specific vaccines, visit the Government of Canada’s travel-health site:

Students are also encouraged to consult their doctor about your needs and requirements to travel abroad.
*Yellow Fever Vaccination cards must be ready in time for your Visa application (February 28 at the latest).
What should I do to get ready for the Field School?

How many courses do I take per semester?
You will enroll in six courses each semester (fall and winter), in addition to milestones and professional development sessions, combined with core seminars, and a pre-departure series. This ensures comprehensive coverage of global health systems while preparing you for the experiential learning component of the program. fieldwork.
What kinds of courses are offered?
Our curriculum spans policy, ethics, and methods across global contexts. Example The core course topics include:
- APPLHSCI 9003: Global Health (0.50 credits)
- BUSINESS 9886: Management Essentials for GHS (1.00 credit)
- GHS 9100: Foundations of Global Health Systems (0.50 credits)

How is the internship arranged?
After the Field School, you’ll return stay into Uganda for a two-month internship with one of our partner organizations (e.g., JCRC, RHSP, Mulago Hospital). The program office facilitates placements based on your interests and partner availability—no separate application is needed. During the fall term, the program will work to identify your internship placement location based on your professional interests and our existing partnerships.
