Preparation for Summer Term

The third and final term of the Global Health Systems program is comprised of two international experiential learning components based in Uganda: a three-week Field School and a 300-hour unpaid internship with one of our partnering organizations (hyperlink to partner page). The Field School in Uganda typically begins during the first week of May.
Following the Field School, students transition into their 8-week internship placements across Uganda, beginning in early June. These internship opportunities allow students to apply their skills in real-world global health environments, contributing to interdisciplinary projects focused on equity, sustainability, and person-centered care. The Summer term requires a lot of preparation by both the faculty and the students enrolled in the Program. A mandatory pre-departure training series is delivered during the Fall and Winter terms to prepare students for the cultural, professional, and logistical aspects of their time in Uganda.
