Biography
Dr. Noha Gomaa is an Assistant Professor of Oral Medicine at Schulich Dentistry and an Associate Scientist at Lawson Health Research Institute, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is an oral pathologist with interdisciplinary research expertise in social epidemiology, neuroscience and social and behavioural epigenetics. Dr. Gomaa’s research program studies the biopsychosocial factors involved in health inequalities along the life-course. Her lab investigates a host of social and environmental risk factors that contribute to oral health and related multi-morbidities such as early-life adversity and psychosocial stress and aims to decipher the pathobiological processes by which such exposures can impact health outcomes.
Gomaa obtained her PhD from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto followed by a clinician-scientist fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. She also completed a fellowship in public health policy at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto and has collaborated on projects with provincial and federal policymakers to develop evidence-informed dental care programs for uninsured dental services to children from low-income families and other marginalized populations.
