Creating a space for interprofessional learning

Hello everyone,

The weather is cooling down, and the students of the Schulich Medicine – Windsor Campus are delving deeper into academics and other interesting pursuits.

First-year students have spent the past month starting their journey of education in clinical medicine with the Blood unit, and second-year students have been enjoying a wealth of in-person lectures from local physicians in the Endocrine unit.

Together, the two classes are making progress with the class band, the Med Hot Chili Peppers 2021-2022, in preparation for a performance during the year’s first Integration Weekend, being held in Windsor.

The Art in Healthcare Symposium was produced by the students of the Windsor Interprofessional Health Student Collaboration, an initiative founded by Schulich Medicine students to bring together health professional students from Schulich Medicine, the University of Windsor and St. Clair College. It was held on November 3, 2018 at the Windsor Campus.

The Symposium created a space for a diverse range of health professional students to learn to use art to reflect on the patient experience and their role as health care providers.

Lisa Boivin was the keynote lecturer and she kicked off a great day of workshops, including dance, graphic medicine, bioart, theatre and poetry. Erik Mandawe, Medicine Class of 2021 and the inaugural Artist in Residence for the London Arts Council, gave his reflections on the intersection of art and health for the closing ceremony. This Symposium was generously sponsored by the School.

Best wishes to the Medicine Class of 2020 as they move further into their clerkship experience, and to the Medicine Class of 2019 as they work on applications for CaRMS.

Warm regards,
Alex Martin, Medicine Class of 2021
