Drs. Geoffrey Pickering, Janet Pope, Emil Schemitsch, and Frank Prato, PhD, for being named as Fellows to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.  Induction into the CAHS as a Fellow is considered one of the highest honours within Canada’s academic community. CAHS Fellows are nominated by their peers and selected in a competitive process based on their internationally recognized leadership, academic performance, scientific creativity and willingness to serve. Jeffrey Dixon, PhD, was honoured by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) as the 2018 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award in Research in Oral Biology. Read the announcement.

Dr. Subrata Chakrabarti has been named Geographic Leader for Asia. The role of Geographic Leader is to serve as a resource and support to the Dean, the Senior Leadership Council and the Internationalization Office in developing a strategic direction for educational, clinical and research activities for the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry related to the specific country or region. Dr. Sunil Parapuram received the Best Glaucoma Paper Award 2018 for Staff PhD Scientist from the Canadian Glaucoma Society, for the paper "TGF-β induces phosphorylation of phosphatase and tensin homolog: implications for fibrosis of the trabecular meshwork tissue in glaucoma."

Corey Baron, PhD, received the 2018 Petro-Canada Young Innovator Award, a program that provides funding to new researchers to recognize, promote and support work that is innovative, impacts positively on the learning environment and has potential to be of significance to society. 

Gregor Reid, PhD, a pioneer in the field of human microbiome and probiotics research, has been awarded with the 2018 Canadian Society of Microbiologists (CSM) Murray Award for Career Achievement. He accepted his award at the CSM meeting in Winnipeg in June 2018. Read the announcement.

Congratulations to the 119 faculty and staff who walked, ran, swam or biked over 80,000 km during the 100-day Virgin Pulse Global Challenge this summer. The team from Celebral Systems Lab was at the top of the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry leaderboard. In addition, this team achieved the most improved honour and one member, Alex Levine, led all competitors at the School, averaging 25,346 steps per day.
