Bio Sketch
Dr. Ana Suller Marti is an adult epileptologist and clinician-researcher at London Health Sciences Centre and an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. She holds cross-appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Paediatrics and in Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Suller Marti earned her medical degree from the University of Valencia, Spain, in 2010 and a Master’s degree in Medical Research from the University of Zaragoza in 2013. She completed her Neurology residency at Hospital Clínico Universitario Lozano Blesa in Zaragoza, followed by a fellowship in Headache at the University of Valencia. She moved to London, Ontario, in 2016 to complete a two-year Clinical Epilepsy and EEG Fellowship at Western University, followed by a one-year Epilepsy Research Fellowship. She subsequently completed a PhD in Medicine at the University of Valencia in 2022, with research focused on neuromodulation in drug-resistant epilepsy.
Since joining Western University’s faculty in 2019, Dr. Suller Marti has developed a multidisciplinary clinical and research program focused on improving outcomes for people with epilepsy, particularly those with drug-resistant epilepsy. She is Co-Chair of the Western Epilepsy Research Group and is actively involved in investigator-initiated research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the mentorship of trainees across multiple disciplines.
Dr. Suller Marti has also held leadership roles within national and international epilepsy organizations, including serving as North American Representative for the Young Epilepsy Section of the International League Against Epilepsy and Secretary of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy. She currently serves as Chair of the Spanish Symposium at the American Epilepsy Society.
Medical Interests
Epilepsy; drug-resistant epilepsy; epilepsy surgery and presurgical evaluation; stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG); intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG); electroencephalography (EEG); extraoperative cortical stimulation; neuromodulation, including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) and deep brain stimulation (DBS); women with epilepsy; transition from paediatric to adult epilepsy care; and epilepsy education and knowledge translation within the community.
Research
Dr. Suller Marti’s research focuses on improving outcomes for people with drug-resistant epilepsy, with particular interests in stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), extraoperative cortical stimulation (ECS), and neuromodulation. She has established a multidisciplinary SEEG research program at Western University and studies how intracranial recordings and brain stimulation can improve seizure onset zone localization, epilepsy surgery planning, and treatment outcomes. She also founded Western University’s monthly SEEG Journal Club and established the SEEG Data Club to promote collaboration, education, and scholarly discussion among trainees and researchers.
Dr. Suller Marti is actively involved in investigator-initiated research, national and international collaborations, trainee mentorship, and epilepsy education. Her scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, conference presentations, and invited talks, and her research has received support from competitive national and institutional funding programs.
