A Matter of Medical Misogyny - Team 5

Media Type: Comic Book

Summary

We chose endometriosis because it is a common neoplasia of menstrual tissue affecting an estimated 2-10% of reproductive aged women1. Still it remains underdiagnosed, misunderstood and often misattributed to “normal period pain.”

This topic clearly connects top course concepts as chronic inflammation, benign vs. malignant neoplasia, immune dysregulation, and the impact of misdiagnoses on prognosis. Endometriosis also illustrates broader systemic issues, including gender bias in medicine, disparities in pain recognition, and the social determinants of health. All influence how patients are treated and how diseases are managed.

HPV and Cervical Cancer: How a Viral Infection Becomes Cancer - Team 42

This topic was chosen because cervical cancer is largely preventable, yet it remains a major global health issue. Presenting the information through an interactive module
allows complex scientific concepts to be communicated in a clear, engaging, and
accessible way for students and the public. The goal of the project is to improve
awareness of HPV-related cancer and emphasize the importance of prevention and
early detection.
