Audio-Visual Memory Task

The patients will participate in a visual-auditory task using the sensory cart. The task will be divided in two sessions: Session 1 (10 mins total) and Session 2 (2 mins total), with a 90-minute nap between sessions. In Session 1, the patient will learn various scene-sound pairings. Then, they will be given a “Yes/No” recognition task in which the patients will identify if they recognise the displayed scene-sound pairings by pressing appropriate keys (“1” for known pair, “2” for unknown pair) on the keyboard. This will be the end of Session 1. The patient will then take a 90-minute nap in the unit. After the patient wakes up, the researcher should give the patient sufficient time to relax and recharge. The researcher must confirm that the patient is feeling comfortable and is willing to proceed to Session 2 of the task. In Session 2, the patient will perform the same “Yes/No” recognition task within 2 minutes. This will be marked as the end of the task. This task should ideally run within the first few days of iEEG recording, when epileptiform activity is minimal.
