Interim Vice President, Lawson Research Institute
Congratulations to Jeremy Burton BSc, MSc, PhD, dBA who has been appointed as Interim Vice President, Lawson Research Institute. A long-standing leader within Lawson, Jeremy brings extensive experience in both research and administration to this new role.
Jeremy holds the Danone Research Chair in Human Microbiome and Probiotics at Lawson and is an Associate Professor at Western University in the Division of Urology, Departments of Surgery and Microbiology & Immunology. Trained in New Zealand, he earned his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Otago, complemented by business administration training at the same institution. Prior to joining Lawson, Jeremy held leadership roles in biotechnology, directing global business development and clinical trials to bring microbial-based products to international markets.
At Lawson, Jeremy has built one of Canada’s leading microbiome research programs, spanning urology, women’s health, fermented foods, microbial imaging and therapeutic innovation. His work bridges fundamental discovery and clinical application, advancing patient care while opening new frontiers in science. He has secured significant research funding, from federal agencies, foundations, and industry, contributing to a career portfolio exceeding $15 million. He holds multiple patents and is the author of more than 190 peer-reviewed publications.
Beyond his academic contributions, Jeremy has cultivated extensive networks with industry and philanthropic partners, fostering collaborations that accelerate innovation, intellectual property development and commercialization. Through his combined scientific, business and leadership expertise, Jeremy is committed to driving Lawson’s research enterprise forward, supporting discovery, translation and impact for patients and communities locally and globally.
