Highlighting the amazing success that our Faculty and Residents have achieved in the most recent round of AMOSO and Department of Surgery IRF funding. These awards have become increasingly competitive over the years so these results are a landslide victory and truly show the exceptional caliber and breadth of work being carried out by our group.

 

AMOSO Opportunities Fund:

 

Dr. Peter Wang: Investigating the relationship between psychological and physiological factors on surgical trainability.

 

DOS IRF awardees:

 

Dr. Blayne Welk:  The risk of dementia associated with anticholinergic medication utilization in OAB patients.

 

Dr. Jennifer Bjazevic: Screening of natural health products for enhanced antioxidant products important for preventing urinary stone  disease using a calcium oxalate Drosiphila melanogaster model.

 

Dr. Jeff Campbell: Prospective evaluation of postoperative pain and opioid use after minor urologic surgery.

 

Dr. Jonathan Izawa: Using DNA methylation profiling to differentiate good from poor prognosis muscle invasive bladder cancer.

 

Dr. Patrick Luke: Evaluation of oxygenated perfusion with hemopure and carbon monoxide for optimal storage or donor kidneys ex vivo.

 

Dr. Jeremy Cepek (Dr. Wang): A portable endoscopic simulator for training urology residents.

 

Dr. Bonnie Liu (Dr. Welk): The morbidity of frequent antibiotic use for urinary tract infections among spinal cord injury patients.

 

Dr. Noah Stern (Dr. Power): The impact of immigration on genitourinary cancer incidence in Canadian communities.
