Congratulations to Dr. Bekim Sadikovic, recipient of an LHSC Academic Realignment Initiative Award. Bekim received one of four Limited-Term Research Chairs in the area of Clinical Genomics and Epigenomics. In this role, Bekim will focus on developing technologies that identify genetic and epigenetic factors to better understand, diagnose and treat a variety of diseases. This chair position will drive advanced clinical genomic and epigenomic research while simultaneously developing translational pathways for its integration into patient care.

We also extend our congratulations to PaLM cross-appointee, Dr. Adrian Budhram, who also received a Limited-Term Research Chair award in the area of testing for neuro-inflammatory diseases. Adrian’s project aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of novel neural antibody tests implemented at LHSC. Results will help to identify deficiencies in test performance, and inform the development of test optimization strategies that maximize test accuracy, minimize patient misdiagnosis, and ultimately improve patient care.

LHSC’s Academic Realignment Initiative Awards were a partnership between London Health Sciences Foundation (LHSF), Children’s Health Foundation and LHSC’s research institute to fund 22 research and quality improvement awards, representing an investment of $5.7 million over five years. The Academic Realignment Initiative honours the organization’s commitment to advance LHSC’s academic mission.
