WPA Undergraduate Journal Critique Workshop

WPA hosted the third annual Journal Critique Workshop on January 17th, 2017. Milica Krstic, on behalf of the WPA executive council, provided tips and guidance for the fourth-year undergraduate Pathology students to read more critically and prepare for the Journal Critique presentations.  The majority (>70%) of the fourth year undergraduate Pathology students attended.

Each attendee filled out an evaluation form, and the workshop was rated as follows: Organization (4.9/5), Relevance (4.9/5), Effectiveness (4.4/5), Learning Experience (4.5/5), and Overall Experience (4.7/5). Additional comments stated that the session was most helpful due to the unique perspective of receiving a presentation from a graduate student vs. a faculty member. Students enjoyed the focus on ‘generalized tips’ and examples of pros and cons of others’ presentations. All attendees stated that they are likely to attend future WPA workshops and would recommend attending the event to other students. Recommendations for future workshops from the undergraduate Pathology students included a workshop focusing on presenting results from their fourth-year thesis projects, and help with poster presentations.

In summary, due to the success of our annual Journal Critique Workshop, WPA will continue to hold these sessions for both undergraduate and graduate students.
