Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bertha Garcia for receiving the Douglas Bocking Award, one of the highest teaching awards at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. This award, created in honour of the former Dean of Medicine and Vice-Provost, is given annually to a faculty member at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of medical education over the last four years.

The award was bestowed upon Dr. Garcia, Vice Dean Education, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and former Chair/Chief of Pathology, by Dean Michael Strong at the Medical Convocation ceremony on May 13th, 2016. The following is a short excerpt from the Dean’s speech: “In her time at Schulich, this year’s recipient has been involved with all aspects of the “business” of our program and has accumulated a great number of experiences, as a researcher, educator, administrator, mentor, and supporter. If one were to connect with a random sampling of Schulich graduates from the last 15 years, each one would have a direct memory or experience of a moment that they could still recount connected to this year's recipient.
