Paterson Lecture 2020

The Paterson Lecture will be given by Dr. Gregg L. Semenza on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. as a Schulich Webinar

Dr. Gregg Semenza is a geneticist at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine who has dedicated his life’s work to understanding how we sense oxygen and respond to lack of it. His is well known for his ground-breaking work that led to the discovery of HIF-1, which allows cancer cells to adapt to oxygen-poor environments. He shared the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for “discoveries of how cells sense and adapt to oxygen availability” with William Kaelin Jr. and Peter J. Ratcliffe.
