Dr. McKelvie completed her medical degree at Western University and paediatric residency at Dalhousie University. She completed her training in critical care medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, followed by an MSc in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the University of Toronto.
Dr. McKelvie’s interests are in the field of patient safety and quality improvement. This stems from a belief that all children should have access to the best and safest healthcare. Specifically, she is the medical lead for patient safety in the Department of Paediatrics and chairs various committees that focus on patient safety. She also collaborates nationally on various patient safety issues. As well, she is involved with patient safety education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her research interests are in the same field, as well as research focused on medical emergency teams and patients dependent on respiratory technology.
