Competency-based Medical Education

Competence Continuum, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

As of July 2019, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be launching Competence By Design (CBD) curriculum as part of Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) which aims to improve residency education and performance.

The benefits of this transition include addressing gaps in current systems, promoting smoother credentialing and accreditation, supporting physician skills and abilities to evolve through practice, responding to changes in patient base and community needs and promoting transparency and accountability during training.

Through the implementation of a CBD committee, department retreats and resident and faculty development, we aim to prepare, launch and perform all aspects of this change to best suit the requirements and needs of our residency education program.
