Dr. Melanie Kok completed her doctoral degree in Neuroscience with an average of 90 per cent and a body of work worthy of this high distinction. Professor Stephen Lomber, Melanie’s thesis supervisor, considers her to be “one of the most promising and creative young scientists” whom he has had the pleasure to know. He ranks her among the top 5 per cent of the world’s researchers doing work on the cerebral cortex. Melanie came to Western five years ago after completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at McMaster. Consistently named to the annual Dean’s Honour Roll, she continued to blaze an impressive scientific path here, with six authored manuscripts, two of which she is first author, and all appear in renowned neuroscience journals. Melanie is also a rowing champion, winning a 2008 Olympic Bronze Medal and a 2011 Pan Am Games Silver Medal. Now an academic champion too, she must make more room on her medals shelf.
Dr. Kok is currently a postdoctoral researcher here at Western University.
Congratulations Melanie!
