CSCI Resident Research Award
The CSCI/CIHR Resident Research Award recognizes outstanding research completed during residency training at Canadian medical schools.
Jointly presented by the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation (CSCI) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), this award celebrates excellence in research projects. Evaluation considers overall merit, research design, ethical standards, originality, contribution to the field, relevance, and the quality of the final deliverable - whether a research paper, poster, presentation, or educational innovation.
Application Deadline: May 30 annually
Award Criteria
- $1,000 cash prize
- Complimentary two-year membership with CSCI
- Certificate signed by the Presidents of CIHR and CSCI
- Final version of the research project (report, publication, or product)
- 300-word abstract summarizing the work
- Letter of reference from:
- Program Director or
- Program Research Coordinator
- One submission per resident per year
- Projects cannot be resubmitted in future years
- Residents may receive the award only once
- No limit on submissions per program
Applications are reviewed by a PGME-appointed subcommittee, including:
- Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education (Chair or delegate)
- Two PGME Committee members:
- One medical specialty representative
- One surgical specialty representative
- One medical resident
- One Hospital Director of Medical Research
- One university representative (appointed by the Associate Dean, Research)
The selected recipient will:
- Deliver a short presentation on an aspect of their research
- Present during an existing departmental academic event (e.g. Grand Rounds)
- Receive the award from a CSCI faculty representative
