Schulich Medicine is viewed as a leader in distributed medical education, offering a dynamic and progressive curriculum in diversified environments throughout Southwestern Ontario (SWO), and providing medical students and residents exposure to patients, health systems and health challenges in regional, rural and urban sites. 

Distributed Education Academies

The Schulich Medicine Admissions Committee defines Southwestern Ontario as consisting of the area which corresponds to the Schulich Medicine Distributed Education communities that offer rural and regional education training opportunities to undergraduate and postgraduate learners. This geographic area is divided into six Academies:

Grey-Bruce Academy 
Huron-Perth Academy 
Oxford Academy 
Elgin-Middlesex Academy 
Kent-Lambton Academy

Applicants who completed all 4 years of high school and graduated within the counties that correspond to the Schulich Medicine Distributed Education Academies may be eligible for consideration through this pathway.

Applicants who wish to be considered through this pathway must complete the OMSAS application, which must include an original high school transcript, and submit through OMSAS by the application deadline.

Applicants may be considered through this pathway if they: 

  • complete all 4 years and graduated from a high school located within the counties that correspond to the Schulich Medicine Distributed Education Academies, 

  • attain a minimum score of 125 in each section of the MCAT that we consider, and

  • meet the same GPA, course load, course level and non-academic admission requirements as applicants through the general stream.

Applying through this pathway does not guarantee the granting of MCAT flexibility, nor an offer of admission. 

There are no fixed seats or quotas for this pathway.

Admission interviews are structured, standardized and conducted virtually by 3-person panels that may include physicians, community members, and medical students. 

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure all documentation is submitted through OMSAS by the application deadline.

Schulich Medicine reserves the right to verify application documentation.

Falsification or misrepresentation of information from any portion of the application will result in removal of the application from consideration, and may be considered in any future application to the University.
