When and how to apply

For entry into Year 1

The application is available only on our How to Apply webpage, mid-September until November 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

For transfer into Year 2

The application is available only on our Transfer Students webpage, early May until July 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

The OUAC application can only be accessed via a link on our How to Apply webpage.
No. The only place to access our application is through a link on our How to Apply webpage.

Applicants can submit an OUAC application at any time while the application is open.

The OUAC application is not dependent on when DAT or Casper tests are taken.

The OUAC application, DAT and Casper scores must all be received by November 1 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Completing the OUAC application

For describing degrees:
  • Highest Year Level Achieved: Please indicate the highest year that has been completed. For instance, if you are in 4th Year, the highest year level that has been achieved is 3rd Year.
  • Field of Study: Choose the category that best describes your degree field of study.
  • Diploma/Degree Type: Choose the category that best describes your degree type.
  • Diploma/Degree Length: Indicate how many years it took/or is anticipated to take to complete the degree.
  • Diploma/Degree Status: Please indicate the current status of your degree.
For describing enrollment in courses:
  • Highest Year Level Achieved: Please select 'Less than 1 year'.
  • Field of Study: Choose the category that best describes the course.
  • Diploma/Degree Type: Choose 'no'.
  • Diploma/Degree Length: Choose 'Less than 1 year'.
  • Diploma/Degree Status: Please indicate 'not expected'.

Yes, all of your university coursework must be included in the academic background section.

However, if your part-time studies, continuing studies, and/or special year appears on the same transcript as the undergraduate course information, you do not need to request another transcript from the same institution.

To verify whether part-time/continuing/special coursework appears on the same transcript as the undergraduate coursework, please contact the institution.

Applicants are advised to use their best judgement when selecting which courses to declare to meet our prerequisite requirements. Once an OUAC application has been submitted, it cannot be changed.

  • five (5) entries can be made for each of the Biochemistry, Biology and Physiology prerequisite requirements. 
  • four (4) entries can be made for the English requirement.

Applicants with declared prerequisites that are deemed unacceptable for our requirements will no longer be eligible for consideration.

Applicants are not permitted to enroll in other courses to meet our prerequisite requirements in that application cycle.

Yes. Applicants who are not enrolled in any post-secondary coursework at the time of application should indicate all of their activities and employment since graduation.
No. Reference letters and letters of recommendation are not an admission requirement. If submitted, they will not be assessed as part of the application.

Once your OUAC application has been submitted, it cannot be modified through OUAC.

Applicants must notify Western University directly and promptly of any relevant changes to their application information or supporting materials that occur between the date of submission and possible registration.

To report a change, email admissions.dentistry@schulich.uwo.ca including:

  • your OUAC Reference Number
  • a clear description of the change

Prerequisite courses
Courses added after submitting your OUAC application will not be considered in the current admission cycle. Only prerequisite courses listed on the OUAC application are eligible for consideration.

Non-prerequisite courses
Enrollment in or withdrawal from non-prerequisite courses during the application cycle (Fall/Winter) is permitted. However:

  • Grades earned in coursework completed during this period will be included in the final cumulative GPA.
  • Offers of admission are conditional upon maintaining a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
  • Withdrawing from courses may affect your cumulative GPA and course load requirements. The Admissions Office cannot confirm the impact of course withdrawals. Applicants are encouraged to review the Admission Requirements, Frequently Asked Questions, and Application Frequently Asked Questions webpages for guidance.

Activities and Employment section
This section of the OUAC application cannot be updated after submission.

New activities or employment begun after submission are not considered in the assessment of the application. Applicants may, however, refer to such experiences in their Western ABS and, if invited, during their interview.

Transcripts

No. The Admissions Office does not pre-assess transcripts or review documents before receiving an application through OUAC.

No. Transcripts will only be sent to Western after your application has been submitted to OUAC and your fees have been processed by OUAC. OUAC will then forward your transcript request(s) to your institution(s).

Wait times to process a transcript request varies by institution. Each school has to receive the transcript request from OUAC, then issue the transcript, and send it to OUAC. Western receives transcripts from OUAC a couple of times per week.

No. The Admissions Office can access your Western transcript, therefore you do not need to fill out a transcript request in the OUAC application.

However, you do still need to indicate attending Western in the Academic Background section of the OUAC application.

Applicants must provide current transcripts with their application. If your transcript does not indicate current course enrollment, you must upload an updated transcript to your Student Center by 4:30 p.m. ET on November 11, 2025. 

If transcripts do not show Winter course enrollment, applicants can provide some other form of proof of enrollment/registration from their institution, such as an official letter on letterhead. The proof must be uploaded to your Student Center in place of the transcript and by the required deadline, until such time as an updated transcript can be provided.

Yes. Applicants must provide transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. Additionally, for undergraduate education completed internationally, a WES assessment must also be provided.

No.
No. Applicants must complete the entire OUAC application and pay before OUAC will send any transcript requests to Western.

For any transcript that cannot be ordered through the OUAC application, applicants must request the transcript from the institution to be sent to themselves, whereupon the transcript can be uploaded to the applicant’s Student Center. Applicants can request electronic transcripts and upload to their Student Center.

Please note: Applicants will not be able to access Western’s Student Center until they have officially submitted the OUAC application, received a current OUAC Reference Number, and Western has received the application information from OUAC (approximately 3-7 business days) from the date of the OUAC submission.

Yes. We require current transcripts at the time of application that show Fall and Winter Term enrollment for all post-secondary education as proof of enrollment in the current academic year. 

Applicants with coursework in progress will be required to submit final official transcripts by June 30 and will be provided information on how to do this at that time.

Yes. All applicants must provide a WES report for all international education, including exchanges and Letters of Permissions.

WES reports are made available to Western's Undergraduate Admissions Office for electronic retrieval through our WES portal.

Select:

  • Western University as the recipient.
  • Undergraduate Admissions as the school/division.
  • WES ICAP – Course-by-Course evaluation to be sent by electronic delivery.

Western autobiographical sketch (ABS)

Applicants will complete and submit the Western ABS through the Kira Talent platform.

Once the OUAC application closes, detailed instructions will be sent to applicants to the email address indicated in the application regarding how to access and complete the Western ABS. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure the email address listed on their OUAC application is current and accurate for the entire application cycle.

All communications, including access details for the ABS, will be sent to the email address provided through OUAC. If no email address is provided or if the address is incorrect. We will not request an alternate or updated contact.

It is the applicants responsibility to ensure all information is up to date and accurate.

The Western ABS invites applicants to tell their story and share who they are beyond grades and test scores, providing the opportunity to highlight non-academic strengths, impactful or transformative life experiences, and personal values.

The Western ABS includes both written and oral (video) components. When ready to begin, applicants will be prompted to pay the required fee through Kira Talent.

The Western ABS is about “YOU". We are unable to provide guidance on how to prepare for or complete the ABS.

We do not confirm receipt of DAT or Casper scores. Applicants wishing to confirm release of their electronic scores to Western University must contact the test provider directly.

CDA     ADA     Acuity Insights

To retrieve your Access Code to activate your Western Identity, you will need:
  • your 10-digit OUAC Reference Number,
  • your 9-digit Western Student Number, and
  • your date of birth, as entered on your OUAC application.

Instructions on how to activate your Western Identity will be provided in the email you receive from Western, which will include the Student Number assigned to you.

Check your Junk/Spam folder regularly in the days following your application submission to the OUAC to ensure you receive this email.

Transcripts ordered through the OUAC application are sent electronically.

There are processing times from when OUAC requests transcripts from the issuing institution to when the issuing institution provides transcripts to OUAC, and to when these transcripts are forwarded to Western and manually updated in the respective Student Centers.

If you ordered and paid for transcripts through the OUAC application and there are no account issues at the issuing institution, the transcripts will be received by our 4:30 pm ET November 11 document deadline.

Please keep checking your Student Center To Do’s as the Item Status will be updated to Received once the transcript has been received.

Confirmations of receipt

Yes. Applicants are strongly advised to print the 'Introduction' page of the OUAC application as a reference to assist in completing the rest of the application.

The 'Introduction' page indicates that once an application is submitted, OUAC will send an email from undergradapps@ouac.on.ca that will include an OUAC Reference Number (10-digits beginning with 2026xxxxxx).

Please add undergradapps@ouac.on.ca to your email settings as a trusted address and save this email for future reference.

Please also provide a current OUAC Reference Number in all communications regarding your application.

Check your Junk Mail or Spam folder. If the email is not in Junk or Spam, there could be an issue with the processing of your application payment.

OUAC will only send a confirmation once they have received the application payment. Please contact OUAC to inquire if there were any payment issues.

It can take 3-7 business days from submitting an application to OUAC until Western receives the application information.

Applicants wishing to confirm release of their electronic DAT and/or Casper scores to Western University must contact the test provider directly.

 

CDA     ADA     Acuity Insights

No. There are processing times involved when requesting scores to be sent. The date of request to release scores is not necessarily the date that the scores are electronically received by Western.

Electronic scores are time-and-date stamped upon receipt. Applicants are advised to plan accordingly.

General inquiries

Schulich Dentistry receives over 800 applications each year. Approximately 200 applicants are invited to attend an interview, and up to 56 are accepted into the DDS Program.
