Bench Test

The Bench Test (formerly known as the PLA Exam) is a mandatory two-day assessment for admission to the Advanced Standing Program for International Dental Graduates (ASPIDG) (previously the ITD Program). It serves as a key selection criterion for entry into the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Advanced Standing Program at Western University.
The Admissions Committee uses the Bench Test to evaluate candidates' psychomotor skills and preclinical dental knowledge. Candidates must demonstrate a range of clinical competencies in a simulated clinical environment, adhering to Canadian dental standards, infection prevention and control (IPAC) protocols, and professional conduct expectations.
Only selected applicants, based on their application materials, will be invited to register for the Bench Test. Approximately 150 candidates will be selected to participate. Participation in the Bench Test is mandatory but does not guarantee admission into the DDS program.
