Prescription for Fun

Students, professors and doctors alike understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance. Supported by Dr. David Wonham, the Prescription for Fun Award is a newly created award intended to support mental health and wellness for students at the Schulich Medicine Windsor Campus. This award provides funding for a class event designed to foster class cohesion through a healthy and fun respite from demands of academic life. The applicants were required to submit a proposal that detailed the event logistic and budget.

Jennifer Gray, Eric Jeong, and Andrew Lechman, Medicine Class of 2020, were successful in receiving the Prescription for Fun Award for their class and were able to organize several outings, including an evening of food and games at Dave & Buster’s in Livonia, Michigan, as well as an open mic night at the Walkerville Brewery in Windsor.

“It was a night of storytelling, featuring delicious local pizza and some great musical acts from our peers," said  Gray. “These events were great opportunities to relax and have some fun with classmates and we are extremely fortunate to have access to this generous donation.”

This year the winning class was able to invite students from all four classes to participate.

Prescription for Fun helps students realize that making time for fun outside of the classroom can help them achieve wellbeing for themselves and others.
