It takes a village

It’s incredible to think that another academic year is behind us. As the Learner Equity & Wellness (LEW) Office was busy planning convocation for the Medicine Class of 2018, we were reminded of the milestones, ups, downs, adjustments and changes that occurred – and were endured during the past four years. It certainly takes a village.

There’s no question it takes a strong level of resiliency and grit to be successful in medicine, it’s important that learners remember there is also available support to help them along.

The LEW office is often the first stop for students who have questions or concerns ranging from personal matters, to financial inquiries to academic challenges and more.

The staff and faculty at the Schulich Medicine - Windsor Campus are accessible and have dedicated administrators at each level of the program. And for the outgoing physicians embarking on residency programs, we hope you will seek out these similar support systems at the destinations to which you are heading.

I would like acknowledge the departments who have helped Schulich Medicine Windsor Campus learners:

Aboriginal Education Centre

Career and Employment Services

Food Services

Lancer Recreation

Office of Human Rights, Equity & Accessibility

Student Accessibility Services

Student Awards & Financial Aid

Student Counselling Centre

Student Health Services

UWSA

And lest we forget two wonderful leaders, Dr. Alan Wildeman, President and Vice Chancellor, University of Windsor and Dr. Gerry Cooper, Associate Dean, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry - Windsor Campus, whose vision and leadership helped us achieve 10 wonderful years of growth and success at the Windsor Campus championing such amazing opportunities for development and always supporting our medical learners’ needs.

They will be missed and we know that their hard work in setting the standard for our Windsor Campus learners will carry on as we welcome new leadership and embark on the next exciting 10 years of training and supporting future physicians.

To all the learners who made it through another challenging and rewarding year, and all the people in their village who supported them, we wish you a wonderful summer holiday and look forward to meeting the Medicine Class of 2022.

As usual, LEW maintains full office hours throughout the summer. Please reach out as needed throughout these months for any support you may need. It has been another wonderful year working with all our incredible learners. Best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable summer!
