Exploring the arts, future career avenues and engaging in advocacy

As we finally welcome the warm weather and summer festivities, I am afraid we must say farewell to another wonderful academic year.

These past few months, we have hosted several events providing students the opportunity to unwind, mingle with colleagues, and learn more about different areas of medicine.

This past month, we hosted our annual Windsor Career night. During the event, we welcomed physicians from different specialities to speak to interested pre-clerkship students. This event providing students with insight into the daily practices of physicians and the wonderful advantages of working in a community like Windsor.

As the graduating class of 2018 prepared diligently for their upcoming licencing exams, they were kind enough to organize an event to meet with junior students to discuss their experiences. This informal meet and greet gave students yet another opportunity to learn and prepare for the years ahead.

On Wednesday, April 25, several Schulich Medicine students travelled to Queen’s Park to advocate for increased residency spots in Canada. The event, Spots4Docs, was attended by medical students from across Canada and highlighted the grassroots advocacy efforts of our students.

The annual Tachycardia show was again a big hit with faculty and students. There were several Windsor Campus students who participated in the event and displayed the wonderful creativity of our student body.

Recently, student leaders also used the Dr. David Wonham; Prescription for Fun award to organize a class trip to an arcade. This provided a well-deserved evening of fun, laughter, and music for all in attendance. The following week, the Windsor Integration weekend also offered students a variety of events to attend including the much anticipated Spring Formal.

These past few months have been filled with fun and exciting activities for students. As the weeks wind down and we near the final exams, students are encouraged to prioritize their wellness and reach out to their peers and faculty if needed.

It has been a wonderful privilege to serve as Vice President for the Schulich Medicine Windsor Campus for the past academic year, and I look forward to reuniting with everyone in the fall.
