Dr. Mark Awuku, Assistant Dean, Faculty & Governmental Affairs

Friday, January 18, 2013

This past year has been a busy one, and plans are already in place to further enhance our programs in 2013. Our goal is to ensure that our students have a positive and memorable experience. As part of that, a survey will be developed to gain a better understanding about how to enhance the introduction to clerkship.

Our clerkship program will be expanding with the launch of a new pilot project in which students will be able to complete elements of their clerkship at either site: Windsor or London. The project will include the departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Surgery and Paediatrics.

In our work with Dr. Denise Figlewicz, Vice Dean, Research & Innovation, we are continuing to investigate new opportunities for those faculty members who are interested in research. If you have a particular interest, please let me know and we can add this to our plans.

I would like to share my thanks to all faculty for their support and efforts on a number of fronts. As our class sizes continue to grow, our faculty is working hard to accommodate our students and provide continued excellence in teaching.

I want to acknowledge Dr. Burey and many others who have worked tirelessly to get things organized for the Patient Centre Clinical Methods (PCCM) course. I would like to thank all faculty members who accepted students to their offices and clinics during the PCCM course.

As always if you have new ideas that will enhance our programs, please let me know. If non-teaching physicians have an interest in becoming more involved, please get in touch with me to learn more about the commitment of becoming a faculty member.

I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year.
