Commitment to the Community: Brenda Davis - You are only as strong as your weakest link

“We’re all a part of this community," said Brenda Davis, academic affairs officer, Dentistry. "And we need to be helping each other out for the betterment of society as a whole.”

That's why Davis is passionate about volunteering her time with the London Food Bank. Davis and a group of friends, including Bev Goldsmith who is also a staff member in the Dentistry Clinics, visit the London Food Bank every few months to volunteer their time and pack boxes of food.

Occasionally, the group will split into teams and add a competitive edge to see who can pack the most boxes within a few hours. “We wanted an avenue where we could contribute to the community as a group – an event to get together while at the same time giving back,” said Davis.

The London Food Bank began in 1987. With their mission to help share food resources, they are a charitable organization that thrives off of the help of their volunteers and community. “I’m very passionate about the London Food Bank. It is a vibrant part of the city,” said Davis.

The Food Bank is providing essentials for almost 4,000 households each month, a number that has increased by more than 50 per cent in the past 10 years. “It’s amazing to learn about the statistics, actually. It makes you so thankful for what you have in life,” said Davis.
