Student Research success sends them packing

Several Schulich Dentistry students are packing their bags, while others are celebrating research success and still more are feeling the benefits of attending a very successful Dentistry Research Day. Nearly 350 students and faculty participated in the day, attending the 12th Annual John T. Hamilton Lecture - featured Dr. Peter X. Ma, MSc, PhD, and 28 students presented research posters.

Three of the award-winning presenters are on their way to represent Schulich Dentistry at competitions across Canada.

Congratulations are extended to:

Joel Keshwah (DDS 2015) and his supervisor Dr. Douglas Hamilton for their award winning Research Poster on the Effects of nanotopographies on osteoblast adhesion, migration and fibronectin fibrillogenesis. Keshwah received the CDA/Dentsply Travel Award and will represent Schulich Dentistry in the Student Clinician competition at the 2014 CDA National Convention in Vancouver, BC.

Mohammed Garshasb (DDS 2016) and his supervisor, Dr. Jacinta Santos for their award winning Research Poster focused on the Comparison of finishing procedures on surface roughness of tooth-coloured restorative materials. Gashasb received the ADA Foundation Travel Award and will represent Schulich Dentistry at the 2014 Dental Student Research Conference in Maryland.

Nicole Johnson (DDS 2015) and her supervisor Dr. Walter Siqueira for their award winning research poster on Properties of synthetic pellicle peptides with multiple identical functional domains. Johnson received the Hinman Student Research Travel Award and will represent the School at the 2014 Hinman Student Research Symposium in Memphis, Tennessee.

Barry Lai (BMSc Student), Merit Award - Dr. Amin Rizkalla Lab
Research Poster Title: Fast setting injectable cements for bone regeneration

Shawna Kim (DCS Student), Merit Award - Dr. Douglas Hamilton Lab
Research Poster Title: Differential response of human gingival fibroblasts to PT and SLA titanium surfaces
