OMFS Accreditation Site Visit Receives Positive Preliminary Feedback

Monday, April 29, 2013

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) program has completed its inaugural accreditation report. This has taken place as it has reached its full enrollment of six students (one per year) since its inception six years ago. An important element of the program's accreditation process is a site visit which was conducted recently.

The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) site survey team consists of educators from the respective discipline and a representative of the regulatory authority. In their review, they are looking for compliance with the Accreditation Guidelines for a Residency Teaching Program in OMFS. CDAC aims to evaluate and improve educational health facilities and review a variety of things including physical facilities, learning resources, clinic operations and more.

"The preliminary verbal report was very positive, however, we have yet to see the draft written report and the official final report will be available in November 2013," said Dr. Henry Lapointe, Division Chair, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

The program is required to complete a CDAC every six years.
