Family Medicine Forum 2012

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

It was another successful Family Medicine Forum (FMF) for our own Department of Family Medicine. Students, residents and faculty members were incredibly busy taking part in five presentations and five posters on research day, and six workshops and two posters as part of the FMF itself.

The 50th Ontario College of Family Physicians (OCFP) Annual Scientific Assembly Family Medicine Forum was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on November 15-18 2012. Co-hosted by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), the OCFP and the CFPC's Sections of Teachers and Researchers, FMF 2012 offered something for everyone.

From a full selection of relevant clinical, teaching and faculty development topics, to many of the OCFP's most popular Mainpro-C workshops, it was estimated to be the largest assembly of Canadian family physicians ever.

Schulich Medicine & Dentistry faculty were also recipients of a number of prestigious awards presented over the course of the Forum. Danielle Saucier, MD, CCFP, FCFP was presented with the 2012 Ian McWhinney Family Medicine Education Award at the 34th Annual Section of Teachers Dinner. This award recognizes an outstanding family medicine teacher deemed by his/her peers to have made a unique and innovative contribution which has had a significant national impact on the development of family medicine education in Canada.

Meanwhile, Drs. Vishal Bhella and Jennifer Bondy were rewarded the resident and medical leadership award for Western University and Drs. Carol P. Herbert and Moira Stewart received the CFPC Lifetime Achievement Awards in Family Medicine Research.
