Honouring Mentors

Thursday, November 29, 2012

October 23 marked the Mentorship Awards and Kick Off Evening for a program which has become a cornerstone of student wellness at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Each year, more than 50 clinical faculty members devote time and experience to medical students through the mentorship program. Through the program, faculty mentors meet with one or two students from each of the four undergraduate years and quickly become an important source of inspiration, reassurance and guidance for their students.

The Mentorship Awards event salutes those mentors, honouring their commitment to the students. During the evening the "Student Support Team" awards for five years of service were presented to Drs. James Howard, Michelle Gros, Donald Farquahr, Pantelis Diamentouros and Kathryn Myers. Dr. Ivan Iglesias received the "Silcox-Fellows" award, which recognizes those mentors who have served 10 years in the mentorship program. Dr. Jim Silcox presented the distinction and spoke very kindly of Dr. Iglesias' evident passion and love for education, and the many students who have benefited from it over the last 10 years.
