And the Bronze Medal goes to . . .

Thursday, November 29, 2012

If this were an Olympic sport, the Schulich Medicine & Dentistry Stairclimb Team would be standing on a podium collecting the bronze medal. Our intrepid team raised $6,190, placing it third on the Stairclimb leader board for money raised for the United Way of London & Middlesex.
Captain Matt Wannan led the way again, collecting $4,440 and making him the second highest individual fundraiser. His team included: Maly Bun, Lori Matheson, Sahza Hatibovic-Kofman, Cindy Chan, Matt Longstaffe, Justin Baker, Roger Porcellato, Lessa Couper and Matt Guttman. Congratulations to all who participated.

Tempting treats raise funds
It wouldn't be the United Way Campaign at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry without some tempting treats. Thanks to Kathy Boon and Joan Estabrooks as well as the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, faculty, staff and students had a lot to choose from.

On October 31, Kathy Boon and Joan Estabrooks from BMSc held their annual Halloween cupcake sale. The divinely decorated cupcakes were gone in a few short hours, scaring up $325 for United Way.

The smell of pancakes and bacon lured in a lot of hungry folk to the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology's Jack Day. The event raised a whopping $700! A team of volunteers led by department Chair Jane Rylett, manned the griddles.

Not to be outdone, the Department of Pathology attracted people to their 5th Avenue Jewellery Fundraiser with bright and sparkly jewellery. Those who bought items did double duty, striking Christmas gifts off their list while also raising more than $210 for the United Way.

If you're sweet tooth is aching for treats, head down to the Medical Sciences Lobby for some 'sweet relief' on December 4! Get some stocking stuffers or some chocolatey stash for yourself at the Sweet Relief Chocolate Sale. More details are coming soon.

The most meaningful gift
There is still plenty of time to make your donation in support of the United Way. And with the holidays on the horizon, making a donation in honour or memory of a family member, friend or colleague makes for a very meaningful gift.
