Change starts with you

The United Way Campaign is underway and this year, faculty, staff and students at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry are aiming to raise $135,000 toward Western's goal of $727,000. Your contribution will make a real difference in people's lives and create lasting change in our community.

Last year, for instance, your support helped 768 youngsters who wouldn't otherwise have had the opportunity, to attend a residential camp where they participated in activities to develop skills, foster healthy relationships and improve self-esteem. More than two thousand children from low-income homes got a healthy start to their day through a summer breakfast program, and 111 children who had witnessed family violence participated in a program designed to break the cycle of abuse - all thanks to your generosity and that of thousands of people across our city.

As the United Way says, "Change starts when we work together." To those of you who provide annual support - thank you for your generous and steadfast support. For those of you who have yet to return a pledge form, please consider making a tax-deductible donation this year.

Our School's participation rate is only 6.2%. If everyone who didn't return a pledge form last year, returned it this year with:

-a $10.00 donation, it would generate an extra $21,810 to help families in our community
-a $5.00 monthly payroll deduction would double what we raised last year ($130,000)
As an added incentive, if you return your pledge form by November 9, you'll be eligible for some great early bird prizes from Western. You can also have fun with your colleagues at these upcoming events:
Cupcake Day for United Way - October 31
StairClimb at One London Place (5 pm) - November 1*
Western Early Bird Draw - November 9
Pancake Breakfast - November 15
Dentistry Bake Sale - November 20
Fifth Avenue Jewellery Party - November 22
Sweet Relief Chocolate Sale - December 4

Watch for event details in This Week @ Schulich.
