Homecoming 2015 – Relive your story with us

Homecoming 2015

There’s no better time to visit Western University than during Homecoming Weekend.

With a number of special events on the go from concerts and lectures to the traditional football game and, of course, the annual Dean’s Gala, you will have the opportunity catch up with your classmates and experience the best that the University has to offer, all while reliving your story.

A full day of activities has been planned at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry for Saturday, September 26. The lobby of the Medical Sciences Building will serve as registration central, with most of the activities held in classrooms nearby.

The morning will feature a Continuing Medical Education program. Medicine Then and Now: Extraordinary Alumni will be presented by Drs. Ken Milne, MD’65, Bill Steciuk, MD’75, and Kiran Raabheru, MD’80.

Guided tours will be available beginning at 10:00 a.m. As you visit some familiar spaces, you will also have the chance to meet with some of our leading researchers and view new facilities including the new Imaging Pathogens for Knowledge Translation (ImPaKT) Facility, the General Anesthetic Suite and the Centre for Functional and Metabolic Mapping.

Bonnie Schmidt, PhD’93, will present the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture. A 2015 Order of Canada appointee and President and Founder of Let's Talk Science, Schmidt will present Inspiring Futures. During her talk she will examine the founding of Let’s Talk Science, from its conception at Western University to its transformation into a national science literacy movement. Two decades, thousands of volunteers and millions of kids later, Schmidt will share why youth engagement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) is more important than ever.

Before you head off to the football game, you can enjoy a complimentary buffet lunch.

The evening events will take place at the London Convention Centre and include the Golden Alumni reception and Dean’s Gala. Together we will celebrate our connections and the extraordinary stories that make up our vibrant history and community.

During the Gala, we will honour the Alumni of Distinction Awards and Dean’s Distinguished Lecture award recipients.

We hope you will be able to join us as we recognize:

• Dr. Jill Bashutski, DDS’05
• Bessie Borwein, PhD’73
• Dr. Len Chumak, DDS, MClD’85
• Dr. George Kim, MD’03
• Fred Possmayer, PhD’65
• Dr. William Wall, MD’70
• Dean’s Distinguished Lecture award recipient: Bonnie Schmidt, PhD'93

Following dinner and the awards presentation, you will enjoy the live music of Juno-nominated singer Mac Graham and his band.

We look forward to celebrating with you. Learn more by visiting our Homecoming website.
