Current Program: Doctoral Candidate in Microbiology & Immunology

Degrees Held: Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honors) - Honors Specialization in Microbiology & Immunology

Future Goals: To become an independent researcher and an expert on the field of infection and immunity.

Why I chose the BMSc Program: My original aspirations were to become a physician, so this was, in my opinion, the best suited program to further that dream.  As my goals changed to academic based research, the BMSc program was still tailored to help me achieve this aim as well.

How did my BMSc degree prepare me for my future goals? The BMSc degree helped to solidify my position in the laboratory in which I am currently completing my doctoral degree.

What inspired me to pursue an advanced degree: My undergraduate BMSc degree gave me exposure to numerous basic medical science practices, which I found so exciting that I decided I wanted to learn more about them.  This led me to the decision that I wanted to pursue an advanced degree.

Favourite Western memory: Too many to count! Competing in the Three Minute Thesis, winning numerous purple shirts, great times at the Grad Club!

Best thing about being a student at Western: The inclusive environment.  There is honestly something for everyone here.

Advice to students considering Western: Western University provides an impeccable balance of social interactions (Canada’s Best Student Experience) and academic learning.  I feel that both of these avenues contribute equally to transitioning people from adolescence to adulthood, and Western provides a great environment to make this change!
