Breast Pathology 2024
Exploring Breast Pathologies - An Interactive Review of PATH3500A Content - Team 32
Media Type: Presentation
Summary
Our PULSE experiential assignment aims to offer current and future PATH3500A students an engaging way to learn about/review breast pathology. To achieve this, we used Microsoft Powerpoint to present our final deliverable, Biorender to create appropriate visual schematics, ChatGPT3.5 to generate summarized bullet points from student-compiled notes, case questions, and MCQ-style questions, and genial.ly to present the review questions in an interactive manner.
In terms of the content presented in our presentation, we focused on summarizing the characteristic features of five distinct breast pathologies: fibroadenoma, mastitis, fat necrosis, intraductal papillary lesion, and invasive ductal carcinoma (i.e., breast cancer). We chose to highlight these five conditions because they do well to capture the wide scope of breast pathologies, ranging from benign to malignant, and deep to superficial. More broadly, we chose to highlight breast conditions because of how clinically relevant breast cancer is in our society. We also highlighted the common ways of sampling breast lesions to better set up the following case study. The case study gives students a chance to brainstorm and apply their knowledge in an open-ended manner, and to encourage discussion and creativity when approaching novel cases.
Finally, our presentation concludes with review questions, which aim to provide students with a chance to test their active recall and identify areas that need review. The addition of case-based questions in this section was intended to train students to discern the relevant information needed to make a diagnosis, while acknowledging the presence of other extraneous symptoms. We believe these questions can help prepare students for the type of exam questions they might see in pathology courses.
Overall, our assignment provides a dynamic learning experience for students interested in pathology, integrating visual aids, interactive elements, and case studies to enhance understanding and preparation for assessments in pathology courses.
