The DSCU at Schulich Dentistry is a state-of-the-art facility that enhances student education while improving access to care for our patients. Equipped with two fully operational surgical suites and six recovery beds, the facility is a vital part of Schulich Dentistry’s infrastructure. It not only supports the School’s commitment to innovation in education and patient care but also aligns with the broader mission of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

This unique suite serves a population that previously had limited access to comprehensive dental surgical care with access to general anaesthesia. It also strengthens Schulich Dentistry’s ability to attract and retain top talent in pediatric dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery, while laying the foundation for a future postgraduate program in pediatric dentistry.

Frequently asked questions

The DSCU is a fully-accredited, state-of-the-art day surgery unit located within the School of Dentistry at Western University.
The DSCU provides comprehensive dental surgical care with access to general anaesthesia, serving patients across Ontario with specialized dental anaesthesia needs.
At present, our focus is on paediatric dental patients who require general anaesthesia to complete necessary dental work. To reduce barriers to access, our fees are generally 50-60% of the amount a private dentist would charge. We accept the Healthy Smiles Ontario program (HSO), the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), and all forms of public dental insurance.
All procedures are performed by faculty dentists and specialists from Schulich Dentistry.  Anaesthesia services are provided by a team of anaesthesiologists, registered nurses, and allied health professionals.
The DSCU sees paediatric patients on referral only from dentists, physicians, public health and community agencies. Click the link above to refer us a patient.

In the Medical Sciences/Dental Clinic parking lot, which also has accessible parking. A map of its location is here. This lot is staffed Monday-Friday until 5pm. From the parking lot, the DSCU is accessed by taking the pedestrian bridge to the Dental Sciences Building Addition.

The best way to access the Medical Sciences/Dental Clinic parking lot is from Western Road. The entrance is north of Sarnia Road and south of Windermere Road. From Western Road, turn east onto Elgin Road, into the University campus, and the parking lot is the first entrance on your left.
