Announcement: 2020 Gardiner Award recipient, Elaine Fuchs as this year’s Muarry L. Barr Lecturer

 

FUC00005-Elaine-Fuchs.jpgThe Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is excited to announce that we will be hosting Gairdner Award recipient Elaine Fuchs our speaker at the 27th Annual Murray L. Barr Lecture.

Elaine Fuchs, PhD is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator and is joining us from the Rockerfeller University in New York, where she is the Rebecca C. Lancefield Professor and head of the Robin Chemers Neustein Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development.

Late last month it was announced that Dr. Fuchs had been named a 2020 Canada Gairdner International Award recipient, which recognizes outstanding scientists in the field of biomedical research. Fuchs received the award “For her studies elucidating the role of tissue stem cells in homeostasis, wound repair, inflammation and cancer." This will be the second year in a row that a Gairdner Award winner has spoken at the Murray L. Barr Lecture, following last year’s presentation by Dr. Ron Vale.

This year the Murray Barr Lecture is scheduled to take place on the afternoon of Friday , October 23rd, 2020 in the McKellar Room, located on the second floor of the University Community Centre, followed by reception at the Wave More details regarding this event will be made available on the Anatomy and Cell Biology Events calendar.
