Dr. Andrew Watson re-appointed Associate Dean, Research (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies)

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Andrew Watson has been re-appointed as Associate Dean, Research (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies), Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University effective from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2017.

Dr. Watson graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in 1981 and Master of Science in Zoology in 1984 from University of Manitoba. He received his PhD in Zoology in 1989, from Western University. In 1992, following post-doctoral training at University of Calgary he joined Western University's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1992. Dr. Watson's previous administrative experience includes Associate Dean, Research (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies) (2010-2012). He is currently a Senior Scientist in the Division of Developmental Biology at the Children's Health Research Institute, a Scientist in the Division of Maternal and Newborn Health at the Lawson Health Research Institute, and is a Professor in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Physiology and Pharmacology at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. Watson has trained more than 20 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and has published more than 100 publications. His research involves elucidation of the molecular mechanisms controlling development of the fertilized oocyte through the first week or preimplantation period of development, which prepares the early embryo for uterine implantation and initiation of pregnancy. Dr. Watson is a recipient of the Deans' Award of Excellence for his outstanding contributions to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry's Mission of Excellence (2008), the Premier's Research Award of Excellence (2000-2005), the Women's Health Paton Collins Fellowship (1999-2004) and an MRC Scholarship (1994-1999).
