Dr. Paul Cooper appointed Chair/Chief, Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences

Following the approval of the Provost, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Cooper has been appointed as Chair/Chief, Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London effective from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2017.

Dr. Cooper graduated with an MD in 1973 from Western University. In 1981, following a research fellowship in Neurology at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston he joined the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences, Western University. Dr. Cooper's previous administrative experience includes Interim Chair/Chief, Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences (2010-2012), Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, Integrated Senior Medical Director--Medicine, Clinical Neurological Sciences and Clinical Support Services (2007-2011), Associate Chief, Neurology (2005-2010) and Director, Residency Training Program in Neurology (1998-2004) for London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care London.

Dr. Cooper's research includes trials of new medication and treatment in the areas of Neuroendocrinology and Headache. He is currently a member of the Canadian Medical Association, Society for Neuroscience, and the Migraine Headache Foundation. Dr. Cooper served as President of the Canadian Headache Society (2010-2012) and on the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC) Expert Panel on Epilepsy Surgery (2011). He has participated as a Visiting Professor at Kingstown Medical College, St. Vincent (1998-Present) and the Trinity School of Medicine, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, West Indies (2009-Present). Dr. Cooper received Western's University Student Council Teaching Honour Roll Award of Excellence (2006), Western's University Student Council Teaching Honor Roll Certificate (2004, 1999) and the Edward G. Pleva Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching (1994).
