Chair/Chief, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation - Subject to the Hospital Boards and Provost approval, we are delighted to announce that Dr. Timothy Doherty, has been appointed as Chair/Chief of the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and its teaching hospitals, London Health Sciences Centre & St. Joseph's Health Care London, effective February 1, 2012 through to January 31, 2017.

Dr. Timothy Doherty graduated with his Medical Degree from McMaster University in 1996. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at McMaster University. Prior to his medical degree, he completed his MSc at Dalhousie University and a PhD in Kinesiology at the University of Western Ontario.

He joined the Department of Physical Medicine and rehabilitation at Western in 2000 and was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2007. His primary appointment from 2004 to 2012 was in the Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences. He has served as a consultant physiatrist and electromyographer in the Neuromuscular Program at LHSC, and physiatrist within the rehabilitation programs at Parkwood Hospital, SJHC.

Dr. Doherty held a CRC Chair in Neuromuscular Function in Health, Aging and Disease from 2005 through 2010. He has published over 80 papers in peer reviewed journals and holds research funding from CIHR and NSERC. Dr. Doherty was the President of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from 2005 - 2007, and sits on the Editorial Board of Muscle and Nerve, The Clinical Journal of Neuromuscular Disease and is Associate Editor of the American Journal of PM&R.
